Analysis and measurement of the components and concentrations of exhaust gases emitted by motor vehicles at idle or operating conditions on-site or on a test bench. Large amounts of harmful exhaust gases emitted by motor vehicles while driving are a major source of mobile pollution in ambient air, and exhaust gas testing is an important part of ambient air pollution monitoring. The main items tested are carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, photochemical oxidants, and smoke density. In recent years, with the rapid increase in the number of motor vehicles, exhaust emissions have become a major source of air pollution. To strengthen the prevention and control of motor vehicle exhaust pollution, the Changchun Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment in Jilin Province conducts remote sensing monitoring of the emission status of pollutants from motor vehicles on roads, focusing on sections such as People's Street, Nanhu Avenue, and Silicon Valley Street.
As an important part of winning the battle for blue skies, remote sensing monitoring of motor vehicle exhaust and mobile source supervision have become important areas for improving urban ambient air quality. In the past, the main measures for motor vehicle exhaust monitoring were annual vehicle inspections and daily road checks and patrols by the ecological environment and public security traffic management departments. However, many problems still exist in the actual operation: road checks during high traffic volume can cause road congestion; idling or low-speed driving of vehicles can produce greater pollution.
It is understood that motor vehicle exhaust remote sensing monitoring equipment can analyze whether the concentration of substances such as CO, HC, and NOx in automobile exhaust exceeds the standard within 2 seconds. This is a method of exhaust emission monitoring that does not affect the normal flow of traffic and is suitable for screening in-use vehicle exhaust emissions, making it easier to promote and implement. Each monitoring point can monitor more than 5,000 motor vehicles a day, with efficiency dozens of times higher than traditional methods.
For vehicles that fail remote sensing monitoring, the motor vehicle exhaust remote sensing monitoring system will directly push the information of the exceeding vehicles to the public security traffic management department, which will impose penalties according to law. Next, the Changchun Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment will conduct irregular road vehicle exhaust remote sensing monitoring and plans to deploy fixed remote sensing monitoring equipment in key areas of the city for 24-hour uninterrupted monitoring, gradually realizing a "mobile + fixed" remote sensing monitoring network for motor vehicle exhaust emissions.
Currently, the application of motor vehicle exhaust remote sensing monitoring technology has received great attention from various localities and departments. With technological upgrades and stricter environmental protection requirements, Changchun will continue to work on network layout, equipment upgrades, and data utilization to further strengthen the supervision of motor vehicle exhaust and win the battle for blue skies.
However, it is worth noting that motor vehicle exhaust remote sensing monitoring technology is not yet mature and there are still some problems in its practical application, such as high requirements for the monitoring environment, low detection rate, and poor single-vehicle repeatability. Therefore, there is still great room for development in motor vehicle exhaust remote sensing monitoring, and researchers need to continuously improve automobile exhaust remote sensing monitoring technology to further promote its development.
