At the opening ceremony of the 2019 China International Information and Communication Exhibition held on October 31, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the three major operators held a 5G commercial launch ceremony. China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom officially announced 5G plans, and the 5G commercial plans were officially launched on November 1.

This marks China's official entry into the 5G commercial era. It is reported that a total of 50 cities have been selected for the first batch of 5G activated cities. And next year, commercial cities will exceed 340. So, what developments will the arrival of 5G bring to the instrumentation industry? Let's take a look!

Sensors

As we all know, the most direct and significant connection to the instrumentation industry is sensors. In the 5G era, the implementation of all action links and application scenarios relies on sensors. Sensors have become the basic hardware and essential condition for related things. According to industry estimates, by 2019, China's smart sensor market will reach a scale of 96 billion yuan. In the 5G era, there's no fear of not having a market, only fear of not having technology and products that can firmly establish themselves in the market. As long as sensor companies specialize and produce high-quality products, there will definitely be great potential in the future徑

Smart electricity meters, water meters, gas meters

In smart city construction, the management of electricity, water, and gas is a crucial link. And the use of electricity, water, and gas cannot do without smart electricity meters, smart water meters, and smart gas meters. Nowadays, with the activation of 5G applications, it can meet the real-time data collection and transmission, remote scheduling and coordinated control, high-speed interconnection of multiple systems, and other functions for smart three meters, achieving remote meter reading. Besides the basic application of remote meter reading, more functions can be completed through the 5G network. For example, real-time monitoring of electricity leakage, real-time monitoring of water quality, pipe leaks, gas leaks, and other internal conditions of pipelines徑

Precision instrument testing

With 5G connecting everything, in terms of network connectivity, all industries require signal processing. For signal links, chips and components are essential, and they must undergo mass production after high-tech precision instrument testing. Network connectivity testing also requires precision instrument testing in the communication industry. For the Internet of Everything, if any single aspect is missed, it cannot be called the Internet of Everything. Although China's 5G application has officially begun, it is not yet complete, so the advancement of 5G infrastructure construction will inevitably drive the demand for measuring instruments and meters徑

In addition to the three aspects mentioned by the editor, with the activation of 5G, instruments and meters can be applied to more industries, such as connected vehicles. Through information sensing equipment such as radio frequency identification instruments, sensors, positioning systems, and laser scanners, vehicles can complete the collection of their own environmental and status information. Furthermore, in the future, with the help of 5G, cloud computing technology, and artificial intelligence, doctors can use video and image-based medical diagnostic systems to provide patients with emergency rescue guidance, remote real-time consultations, and even remote surgeries. The activation of 5G will make the future instrumentation industry tend towards simpler and more convenient operations while meeting user needs, and will achieve more functions, making them smarter and more vivid to use徑

It is understood that China has officially started the research and development of 6G, and it is believed that a different era will come then. Instruments and meters are tools or equipment used to detect, measure, observe, and calculate various physical quantities, material components, physical property parameters, etc. The research and development of 6G, including its future use, will also be inseparable from the help of instruments and meters.
