According to Russian media reports, a gas poisoning incident involving over 40 people occurred at a middle school in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia, on the 25th.

According to TASS, the poisoned individuals included 44 students and one adult, 10 of whom were in serious condition. RIA Novosti reported 43 students and one adult were poisoned.

According to Interfax, all poisoned individuals have been hospitalized for treatment. According to the Emergency Situations Department of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, preliminary investigations show that a Gazprom natural gas distribution station is located 1.5 kilometers from the school. The gas poisoning incident was caused by an excessive concentration of odorant in the gas emitted from this distribution station.

Regarding the statement from the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Emergency Situations Department, the press service of Gazprom's Nizhny Novgorod gas transportation company issued a statement saying that the distribution station is operating normally and no problems have been recorded. The poisoning incident may have been caused by trash burning at a landfill near the school. However, according to the head of the district where the middle school is located, the landfill near the school was closed a month ago.

Currently, gas emission has stopped, and the cause of the accident is still under investigation. Governor Gleb of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast has ordered that all necessary assistance be provided to those poisoned and that the situation remains under continuous control.
